We Are Looking For

Montana Instruments, a growing high-tech company in Bozeman, Montana, is seeking a Buyer II. The Buyer II is responsible for managing the company supply chain to ensure operational and financial requirements are met. They convert inventory and sales data into operational data to enhance planning and execution of materials purchases and coordinate and execute the purchase of related supplies, equipment, and services for the entire company. The buyer maintains the supplier relationships while developing and integrating new suppliers in order to accommodate evolving needs throughout the organization.


·        Identify purchasing needs through established sources of information.

·        Create, issue, and maintain/manage Purchase Orders.

·        Create, maintain, and utilize established purchasing and materials planning processes.

·        Support new product introduction.

·        Support Engineering with custom-engineered part acquisition.

·        Support Finance/Accounting with regard to supplier invoicing and credit issues.

·        Work closely with Inventory Control and Materials personnel to identify inconsistencies and ensure inventory data updates are implemented and maintained as needed in the ERP system (Epicor).

Minimum Qualifications

·        3-5 years’ experience as a buyer/planner in a manufacturing environment.

·        Some college business course work is desirable.

Desired Skills

·        Effective communication skills in environments involving suppliers, warehouse personnel,engineers and plant management.

·        Understand financial impacts of purchasing decisions.

·        Ability to constantly multitask in a fast-paced environment.

·        Proficient in use of Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

·        Detail oriented.

·        Strong relationship management skills, able to work with supplier to develop effective long terms relationships.

·        Strong negotiation skills.

·        Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronics commodities as well as fabricated materials per engineering specifications.

·        Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems.
